Item#30: Calcopirit, Sfalerit, Calcit / Chalcopyrite, Sphalerite, Calcite

calcopirit

Sfalerirtul (denumit pana in 1980 blenda) are duritatea 3,5-4; Culoarea neagra; Luciul adamantin. Cea mai frecventa ocurenta pentru calcopirit este in depozite hidrotermale de tip porphyry copper, in filoane de pirit asociat cu sfaleritul si galenitul, cuartul sau calcitul. Aici este asociat cu calcit.

Chalcopyrite is one of the most important ore for copper. Sphalerite is the most common zinc mineral and contains impurities like iron, arsenium, mercury, cadmium. Chalcopyrite differs from pyrite by a more intense color and smaller hardness (3.5-4), poor cleavage, conchoidal fracture, metallic luster. Sphalerite has 3.5-4 hardness, black color, adamantine luster. The most common occurrence for chalcopyrite is in hydrothermal deposits, “porphyry copper”, and is often associated with pyrite, sphalerite, galenite and calcite or quartz.
